NCC Robotic Observatory Gallery of Messier Objects (A work in progress)
These images were obtained at the Sierra College Nevada County Campus Robotic Observatory (NCCRO) by the Department staff and astronomy students (Astronomy 11 online and Astronomy 14). The NCCRO is equipped with a Celestron 11" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and an Apogee Instruments CCD camera.
The students access the observatory via the internet and collect the images remotely. These images are then downloaded and processed for use in Laboratory exercises during the course.
This list of Deep Sky Objects was compiled by Charles Messier (1730 – 1817). It was first published in 1774 with the final version published in 1781. It is presented here with pictures taken at the NCCRO. This gallery was created to help students assigned to use the NCCRO select objects for their class work. It also sets a realistic expectation of the pictures they will get as opposed to the Hubble telescope images we are all used to seeing.
